Congratulations to This Year’s Lena Todd Award Winners

The staff at Blue Mesa Review would like to extend a warm congratulations to the winners of the 2012 Lena Todd Awards for Excellence in Creative Writing, sponsored by UNM’s Creative Writing program!

In poetry, Reina Archuleta received first place honors for her poem “Two Sparks,” nominated by Bonnie Arning, and Elise Mouchet received second place honors for her poem “Ode to Bacon,” nominated by Nick DePascal.  In fiction, Nolan Eskeets received first place honors for his story “Storms,” nominated by Jack Trujillo, and Diego Villegas received second place honors for his story “Feathered,” nominated by Bonnie Arning.  In creative nonfiction, Quentin Chirdon received first place honors for his essay “From the Hands of Thieves,” nominated by Nora Hickey, and Kathryn Lim received second place honors for her essay “School Bus,” nominated by Lisa Chavez. The categories were judged by by MFA students Daniel Berger (Poetry), Jill Dehnert (Fiction), and Carrie Classon Smith (Creative Nonfiction).

In addition to a cash award, all prize-winners will have the opportunity to read from their work at a special Works-in-Progress reading at Winnings Coffeehouse on Friday, March 1 at 7 pm.
