Announcing Our 2014 Poetry Contest Winners

It is with great pleasure that we have the opportunity to announce our 2014 Poetry Contest Winners.

Poetry judge Carmen Giménez Smith has selected the following poems:

1st Place: “Half-Elegy for My Mother’s Voice” by Sara Borjas

“This is a classic elegy dense with sparkling imagery. The poem packs a powerful emotional punch, but is also generous in its story.”

2nd Place: “If the Jornada del Muerto had a trachea” by Jennifer Givhan

“The poem is frenetic and ambitious. I love the ear of this poet, and also how she paints a contemporary and vital Southwest scene.”

3rd Place: “Don’t Look Now I Might Be Mexican” by Jose Araguz

All three poems will appear in this fall’s Issue 30 of Blue Mesa Review.

Congratulations to our contest winners!

Fiction Contest Update: Unfortunately our fiction judge has had an unexpected medical situation arise, so we are facing some delays in announcing the fiction contest winners. We will let you know as soon the winners are selected. Thank you for your patience.
