2013 Summer Contest WINNERS!

Here are the final results of our 2013 Summer Contest, straight from the desks of Sherman Alexie, who was the fiction judge and Michael Dickman, who judged poetry. We can’t wait for you to read these pieces in our Winter Issue, set to launch December 6th.

2013 Poetry Contest, judged by Michael Dickman:

1st place ($250 and Publication): “On Hearing a Childhood Playmate is on Death Row, Early Spring” by Annah Browning

2nd Place (Publication): “Even a Glacier is a Rolling Thing” by Alec Hershman

3rd Place (Publication): “Coma” by Kate Gray

2013 Fiction Contest, judged by Sherman Alexie:

***After Mr. Alexie made his top fiction choices, the author of the first-place story informed us that his piece was no longer available for publication, thus rendering it ineligible for the contest. As a result, the 2nd Place winner will receive the prize money and publication, and the 3rd Place winner will be awarded publication.

2nd Place ($250 and Publication): “The Ambassador’s Wife” by Alexis Stratton

3rd Place (Publication): “The Salvaged” by Charles McLeod

Congratulations to all of the winners from the 2013 Summer Contest! We had some truly incredible stories and poems sent to us this year and we are so grateful to all of you who submitted to our contest. We hope you’ll consider submitting more of your work during either our general submission period, open now until March 31, or our 2014 Summer Contest. Either way, we’ll see you December 6th for our Winter Issue launch. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Blue Mesa Review
